Thematic visits
For high school classes, student groups and other study groups, the Embassy of Canada offers special guided visits in the Marshall McLuhan Salon as well as general introductions to Canada and presentations on specific topics related to Canada. Guided tours of the Embassy building are not offered.
Special workshops are offered to primary school groups at specific times of the year. Please contact us by Email if you are interested in registering your class for a workshop (info@mucluhan-salon.de )
Advance registration is required for guided visits, which generally last 90 minutes. They are conducted in English, French or German as required.
If you are interested in the options on offer and would like to book a guided visit, please do so via the visit planner.
Options
We offer various options for thematic guided visits. The program for such a visit could, for example, include the following:
- film on the selected topic (approx. 15 min.)
- presentation on the topic (approx. 25 min.)
- introduction to the Marshall McLuhan Salon
- independent research (approx. 40 min.)
- evaluation and conclusion
To support independent research, we create questionnaires tailored to the topic, school grade and language skills. In all guided visits, participants are encouraged to develop their language skills through active participation and by immersing themselves in the material provided in the original languages.
Upon request we also offer the following special options for groups:
- Group work: The participants first study various aspects of a topic in detail, subsequently presenting the results to the group. This option is only suitable for groups of up to 20 participants.
- Film followed by a discussion: Higher grade classes, or college and university students, have the opportunity to analyze in depth one of our many original-language films. Please check available film titles in our media centre and contact us with your requests and suggestions. We have already developed discussion topics and theses for some films.
- Research sessions: Students, but also school classes and other interested groups, may register for a research session on one or several topics in the Marshall McLuhan Salon. This is also possible at short notice. A staff member is always on hand to answer questions.
- Lessons and presentations: Teachers and students may use our extensive range of media to hold or prepare lessons or presentations in the Marshall McLuhan Salon.
Every guided visit includes an introduction to using the Marshall McLuhan Salon and to your chosen topic. If you are interested in a special option, please enter this in the comments box when registering and we will get in touch with you.
